About 1,500 Blount County Medicare enrollees with Medicare Part D Prescription Drug coverage have not applied for the Low Income Subsidy through the Social Security Administration.
This is according to statistics from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS). The Low Income Subsidy is also called "extra help" and helps pay Medicare Part D drug plan premiums and co-pays.
If you are not receiving extra help and your gross monthly income is below $1,353 for an individual or $1,821 for a married couple living together, you may qualify. Your resources must be limited to $12,510 for an individual or $25,010 for a married couple. Resources include such things as bank accounts, stocks, bonds, mutual funds, IRAs, but do not include your house or car.
For more information on applying for extra help for Medicare Part D Prescription Drug costs, call the Blount County Community Action Agency Office on Aging at 983-8411.
