A Maryville man has been charged with five misdemeanors in connection with a weekend accident.

Jack Allan Allen, 32, Garland Road, is charged with reckless endangerment, leaving the scene of an accident involving personal injury, reckless driving, failure to exercise due care and not having proof of insurance, Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper James Dalton said.

Allen could not be reached Wednesday for comment.

The incident happened Sunday at a memorial for Ricky Lee Carver, 57, who died Nov. 7. Carver loved cars and motorcycles, said his friend, Maryville resident Larry Stevens, whose car was damaged in the accident.

There were dozens of motorcycles and classic cars and hundreds of people at the event.

"Basically, he was doing burn outs after the memorial in front of a large group of spectators when he lost control of his vehicle," Trooper Dalton said. "The vehicle left the right side of the roadway -- while it was facing north bound on 129 -- and struck three vehicles on the right. Then it crossed over and hit a vehicle on the left."

Some witnesses -- like Stevens -- said the car's throttle must have gotten stuck.

"(The driver) wouldn't have had that happen (on purpose)," Stevens said. "Something got real loud like the accelerator hung on the car. Everybody was running."
