The state is installing a $218,000 water treatment system on Main Street in Friendsville to treat groundwater contamination from an underground gasoline tank.
Theta Technologies is installing the equipment for the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation on the site, known as the old "Friendsville Texaco" property.
TDEC spokesperson Tisha Calabrese Benton: "That entails putting a machine on the property and putting trenches around the machine. It will collect and treat the groundwater."
