Maryville College linebacker Kyle Chewning and wide receiver Wesley Idlette were named first-team All-USA South Athletic Conference on Wednesday, headlining the Scots' 11 all-conference players.

Offensive lineman Brian Wendel, defensive back Bud Christy and defensive linemen Blake Barnes and Yohance Butler were second-team selections for MC, which finished 4-6.

Running back Rommel Hightower, kicker Andrew Noboa and defensive backs Caleb Clement and Phil Garrett were named honorable mention.

Senior nose guard James McCarty was chosen to the league's all-sportsmanship team.

"I am very proud (of) our players. All had outstanding seasons," Maryville coach Tony Ierulli said. "It is encouraging that seven of our all-conference players will be returning for the 2010 football season."

Chewning, who finished his career as MC's all-time career tackles leader, earned his third all-conference selection after pacing the USA South in tackles for the second consecutive season with 123. He recorded 46 solo tackles, 77 assists, 9.5 tackles for loss and three sacks.

Idlette caught 62 passes for 994 yards and seven touchdowns this season, the second-highest single-season totals in school history. The sophomore from Chattanooga led the USA South in receiving yards per game and was second in receptions per game.

After only two seasons at MC, Idlette ranks third in school history with 109 career receptions and 1,772 receiving yards.
