KNOXVILLE -- After declining to comment Tuesday on freshman defensive back Nyshier Oliver's shoplifting citation earlier this month, Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin on Wednesday addressed Oliver's status and punishment.

"Nyshier the Saturday -- I guess that's two Saturdays ago -- we were told of something happening," Kiffin said. "He was not arrested. And we dealt with it internally."

Oliver did not dress for the Memphis game, but Kiffin said that was not because of punishment.

"That was not a discipline reason," Kiffin said. "He doesn't play anyway. Somebody's punishment would not be as he's redshirting to miss a game. We dealt with it internally.

"I was told that day. Obviously, we were focused on the game and the players that were playing. So we told him that we would talk to him Sunday after the game."

MCCOY IN QUESTION: Senior linebacker Rico McCoy is a question mark for his final home game Saturday against Vanderbilt after reinjuring his knee last week.

If McCoy can't play Saturday, walk-on Shane Reveiz would start in his place, Kiffin said.

PROVE IT: Kiffin said Sunday that he was making UT's place-kicking job open for competition. After Wednesday's practice, Kiffin said junior Daniel Lincoln has had a good week, but he is not sold yet.

"We're going to have to see in (pregame) warm-ups as well," Kiffin said.
