A 56-year-old Louisville man convicted in April 2008 on a charge of second-degree murder was sentenced to 18 years in prison today.

Wayne Robert Wait appeared in Blount County Circuit Court in front of Senior Judge Jon Kerry Blackwood today and was facing between 15 and 25 years on the conviction.

Wait, Haven Hill Road, Louisville, was charged with first-degree murder following the shooting of 40-year-old Michael “Troy” Bruce, also of Haven Hill Road, but a jury found him not guilty on that charge. Jurors unanimously found him guilty of second-degree murder after a two-day trial in April 2008.

After hearing testimony from Bruce's family members, and arguments from the prosecution and defense, Blackwood sentenced Wait to 18 years.
