On Aug. 28, the United Way of Blount County's annual campaign kicked off with a goal of $1.9 million and a deadline of Nov. 20.
82 days and $1,885,660 later, the campaign is almost over.
As of Thursday, the campaign was $14,340 away from its goal, and United Way campaign chairman John Hinkle hopes he can announce at today's United Way victory celebration that the goal has been reached.
“We will finish on time; we will make our goal,” Hinkle said.
Hinkle added that the campaign has had its share of ups and downs. “We've had company campaigns we thought would be under...and they've surpassed our wildest expectations.”
Hinkle said that the volunteers and the giving spirit of Blount County are what have made his campaign a success.
