KNOXVILLE -- Jonathan Crompton almost made Tennessee football history Saturday night.

Vanderbilt defensive back Jamie Graham's third-quarter interception of Crompton on a pass intended for freshman tailback David Oku snapped the senior quarterback's streak of 142 consecutive attempts without a pick.

The interception left Crompton one pass short of Casey Clausen's school-record 143 consecutive attempts without an interception in 2003.

Crompton completed 15 of his first 23 passes for 184 yards and two touchdowns against the Commodores before finally being charged with the turnover.

His short pass across the middle hit Oku's hands, but the ball popped out after Oku made contact with a Vanderbilt defender.
