Members of the Blount County Sheriff's Office Training Unit were recently honored at a conference in Pigeon Forge.
"We are very proud of our training unit," Sheriff James Berrong said, in a prepared statement. "Our law enforcement training academy has already established a reputation in the state of Tennessee as being the best training academy in the state. These recruits receive the best and most professional training available. We are very lucky to have this high caliber of training officers in our unit."
The training unit -- made up of seven members -- received the "Positive Force Award" from VF Imagewear, which created the award to honor officers who have distinguished themselves, their departments and their profession through extraordinary acts, according to Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Marian O'Briant.
This is the first time since the creation of the award in 2005 that a Tennessee law enforcement agency has received the honor.
