Maryville College paid fitting tribute to Jimmy Campbell on Sunday by coming from 13 points down to defeat Wabash College, 86-79, and win the first annual memorial tournament honoring its All-American alum and former Maryville High coach and athletic director.

This early in the season, the Scots (4-0) aren't playing with the kind of chemistry that coach Randy Lambert is aiming to develop, but they showed grit and a penchant for clutch plays in victories on both days of the tourney.

Down by 13 points in the second half Sunday at Boydson Baird Gym, MC rediscovered its 3-point shooting touch to draw even with 1:30 left in the contest. The Scots then determined the outcome with a critical three-point play from Brandon McGill and 8-of-11 free-throw shooting in the closing seconds.

The Scots showed tenacity in the post against Wabash, going toe-to-toe with very physical opposing players who contended for every rebound and contested every shot. But it was 3-point shooting -- mostly from former Maryville High standouts Jordan Damron and Wes Lambert -- that got MC in position to win.

The duo combined for 27 points and each reached double figures in the contest, Lambert with 15 and Damron with 12.

Greg Hernandez, named MVP for the tournament, was again the master of the paint for the Scots, leading the team in scoring with 20 points. Watson reached double figures with 13 points, and McGill scored 12 points and had seven rebounds.
