The Blount County Genealogical and Historical Society will present "Mountain Medicine -- From Home Remedies to Modern Medicine" by Dorothy Gregory Sutton, at 7 p.m. today at the Blount County Public Library.
Sutton received a nursing degree from Baptist Hospital in Knoxville and worked for Blount Memorial Hospital before being employed as a public health nurse for the State of Tennessee. She worked in the Blount County Health Department as a clinic nurse and the Home Health Program. Later, she transferred to the Licensure Division, which surveyed local hospitals, home health companies and nursing homes for conformance to state and federal law. After 30 years, she retired from the state and worked for the Blount Memorial Home Health Unit.
She has spent several years collecting and organizing information regarding health among the Blount County populations from the early establishment of a public health doctor to the modern services of the Blount County Health Department.
The library presentation is free and open to the public.
