The Humanities class is taking on a new step. In a creative way to meet the physical activity requirement of 30 minutes a day, three days a week, Steve Carpenter, Humanities instructor, hopes to incorporate ballroom dancing into his classroom.

Humanities is a course devoted to intense film study. Students in this class watch classic films, learn about direction, camera angles, and what makes a "good" movie. Carpenter chose to have a supplement to the study of classic musical films, such as "The Sound of Music," by teaching the students how to ballroom dance. Carpenter takes ballroom dancing lessons with his family for enjoyment. Students were amazed as to how fun ballroom dancing can be.

Daniel Blevins says he "enjoys dancing" and "hopes to learn new styles and techniques." Jon Kurtz and Sarah Wilson unanimously agreed that they enjoyed coming to class now because they love to dance.

"I've found a new hobby," Brooke Becker said. So far students have learned to dance the salsa and waltz, and some hope to learn how to tango.

Mu Alpha Theta is currently looking for new members. Calvin Cupp sponsors the math club. In order to become a member, students must have completed Algebra II with at least a "B" average, have completed two hours of community service, and have gone to at least one ACT tutoring session. After meeting these requirements, students should come to the meetings held the third Tuesday of every month.

Officers include Brittany Neff, president; Katie Spears, vice president; Macy Alligood, treasurer, and Candice Lawton, secretary. Membership in the math club offers students a great way to complete community service hours with close friends. During the spring term, members will take a trip to Six Flags to celebrate the year's hard work. Please see Cupp or one of the officers for more information.
