Two Maryville residents have filed a lawsuit alleging that Blount Memorial Hospital and All Women's Care were negligent in the death of their son.
Kelli Kristina Page and Christopher Charles Carpenter, Grove Street, Maryville, are suing the health care providers for a total of $2.9 million for wrongful death, according to a complaint filed Monday in Blount County Circuit Court.
Jessica Stith, spokeswoman for Blount Memorial, said she couldn't comment on the case. "It is hospital policy not to comment on pending litigations," she said Monday afternoon.
According to the lawsuit, Page was at Blount Memorial Hospital to give birth on April 6, in the care of Dr. Tracie Traver and other personnel with All Women's Care.
"During the course of the labor process, difficulties arose which were not properly attended to and/or appreciated by defendants, resulting in the death of Cameron Riley Carpenter," the complaint stated.
The suit alleges that Traver and All Women's Care "deviated from the usual standards of care for physicians similarly situated in failing to properly care for the mother and child."
Traver also said Monday she couldn't comment on the suit.
The couple is suing for $2 million for wrongful death and Page is individually suing for $900,000 for personal damages, according to the complaint.
