Maryville College Scots knock off Emory's Lady Eagles, 66-50

ATLANTA —The Maryville College women's basketball team completed its sweep through Atlanta with a 66-50 win over Emory University on Tuesday at Emory's Woodruff Center.

Freshman guard Janell Menard scored 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting to lead the Scots (3-1), who won Monday at Oglethorpe University. Menard also had four rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals. C.J. Dake, a sophomore from Knoxville, poured in 10 points and four rebounds in 14 minutes. Senior Rachel Draper and sophomore Tara Heyboer each added nine points.

MC shot 58 percent in the second half to pull away from the Eagles (2-3), who were paced by Whitney Martin's 16 points and 10 rebounds.

The defending Great South Athletic Conference champion Scots will play their conference opener against Wesleyan College at 2 p.m. Sunday in Macon, Ga.

MC's Greg Hernandez GSAC player of week again

The Great South Athletic Conference has announced Maryville College's Greg Hernandez has been named player of the week for the week ending Nov. 22. Hernandez led the Fighting Scots to three wins, including a road victory over nationally ranked Centre. He was also named the James C. Campbell Memorial Tournament most valuable player.
The senior averaged better than 20 points and 7 rebounds per contest over the three-game stretch.
