The rushing touchdown mark wasn't so important for Jaron Toney.
It was the win-loss record that he was concerned about.
"I was just happy we came out with the win," Toney said Monday, three days after tying Riverdale's Ralph King for most rushing touchdowns in a season in state history. "I was more worried about the win than the record."
The Alcoa tailback's 43rd touchdown in 2009 may have been his biggest, not because it was his strongest run or flashiest move, but simply because it helped put his team into the Class 3A semifinals. The fourth-quarter score against Loudon put away the Redskins and assured the Tornadoes' unbeaten run would continue.
"The game wasn't over," Aloca coach Gary Rankin said. "It's 14-3 with two minutes left, and they got all their timeouts left. Anything can happen. For him to tie it at home, that was a pretty good treat for him and our fans."
