The Alcoa and Maryville football teams are on the way to the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association football championships -- yet again.

The Rebels defeated Murfreesboro Riverdale, 42-30, within the friendly confines of Shields Stadium on Friday night, completing an unexpected domination of Class 6A and a chance to play for the title on Dec. 5 in Cookeville.

Maryville (13-1) will be making its sixth consecutive trip to the state title game.

Alcoa, meanwhile, took to the road Friday and extended its unbeaten streak with a 34-7 victory over Elizabethton.

In addition, Tornado running back Jaron Toney broke the state record for rushing touchdowns in a single season in the first quarter at Elizabethton.

Alcoa (14-0) will now contend for the Class 3A state title on Dec. 4 in Cookeville.

A win would give Alcoa an unprecedented six straight state championships.
