Finally, George Quarles had heard, read and seen enough. Typically loathe to buy into any outside sources for motivational tactics, Maryville High School's coach on Friday night changed his script.

One too many e-mails had informed Quarles that his Rebels never would be able to run the football effectively against Riverdale in a Class 6A Semifinal.

One too many newspaper stories showed Quarles the Warriors believed as much.

One too many of Quarles' peers even told him not waste time on the ground.

Now Riverdale has time to figure out what went wrong.
