Lady Mountaineers close Thanksgiving tourney with win

The Heritage Lady Mountaineers overpowered visiting Hardin Valley, 50-36, at the Thanksgiving Basketball Tournament on Saturday at Heritage.

The Lady Hawks kept the game close in the first quarter, with Jennifer Schilling's five points, including two free throws, that gave Hardin Valley its only lead of the game. Heritage closed the quarter up 14-13.

The Lady Mountaineers went on a 10-0 run in the second quarter, and the Lady Hawks' shooting was ice cold. Tracy Hardiman sparked the team with four points, all from the foul line. She paced Heritage with 13 points and set the tone for the Lady Mountaineers' foul shooting, which was 16-for-20 for the game.

Heritage's second-quarter momentum carried over into the third quarter when the team opened a 15-point lead behind the shooting of Katerina Morris and Lauren Burnett. Morris had nine points and Burnett scored eight.

Haley Keith paced the Lady Hawks with nine points.

Lady Rebels

Torie Vaught scored 23 points to lead Maryville past Campbell County, 60-50.

The Lady Rebels finished strong with 33 points in the second half. Carrie Goodson and Alex Breazeale also posted double figures for Maryville, scoring 13 and 10 points, respectively.

Jessica Moore scored 27 points for the Lady Cougars and Maria Foust added 10.

Lady Govs

Jefferson County edged William Blount High's Lady Govs, 57-53.

The Lady Govs led 30-28 at halftime, but the Lady Patriots put up 21 points in the third quarter to take the lead.

Shannon Trentham led Jefferson County with 18 points.

Three William Blount players were in double figures. Sarah Wilson scored 13 points to lead William Blount. Sami VanVranken and Tatum Burstrom had 12 points each.

Rebels

Maryville dominated Campbell County in the boys game, 93-67, with five players scoring in double figures for the Rebels.

Maryville had 26 points in the third quarter to blow open the game.

T.J. Kimble paced Maryville with 14 points. Cameron Langley and Alex Tipton scored 13 points apiece for the Rebels, J.P. Burris scored 12 and Tucker Haynes had 10.

Cody Malicoat scored 16 to lead the Cougars.

Governors

Micah Ballard and Ty McBrayer were too much for Jefferson County.

Ballard scored 24 points and McBrayer had 23 in a 70-64 victory for the Governors.

William Blount overcame a shaky first quarter, in which Jefferson County led 20-10. The Governors chipped away at the Patriots lead in the second quarter, and then had a big second half to win the game.

Nick Oliver scored 14 points to lead Jefferson County, which got points from all of its players but one.
