JEFFERSON CITY -- Although the third annual Toyota Tennessee All-Star high school football game was held in East Tennessee, the homefield advantage did little to prevent the West All-Stars from prevailing, 16-13, on Saturday at Carson-Newman College.
The West All-Stars have now won consecutive meetings and lead the all-times series 2-1.
Alcoa's Jaron Toney carried five times for 27 yards, tops on an East squad that relied mainly on the passing arm of Soddy-Daisy's Scott Parrott, who was 19-of-31 for 202 yards but no touchdowns. Toney caught four passes for 50 yards and returned one kickoff for 21 yards.
Defensively, Toney recorded four tackles, including one solo, in the contest. Alcoa's Tyler Robinson, who also started for the East, had one tackle.
Red Bank's Keon Williams scored the only touchdown for the East, which came in the third quarter. Ooltewah's John Long kicked field goals of 27 and 39 yards for the remainder of the East's offensive production. The West went up 9-3 in the first quarter on a 12-yard touchdown run by Bartlett's Willie Matthews and a safety. The winning touchdown came from Whitehaven's Tony Jefferson on a 25-yard run in the third quarter.
The MVPs for the East were Parrott on offense and Catholic defensive back Tyler Williamson. For the West, Austin Martindale of USJ took the offensive honor and Milan's Avery Williamson garnered the defensive award for his performance at linebacker.
