Dr. Anne and Frank Landers opened the doors of the Old Stone House, the oldest extant home in Blount County, Dec. 4 and welcomed guests to an old-fashioned Christmas open house. Listed as the Samuel Frazier Home on the National Registry of Historic Places, the home's building date is unknown but is estimated at between 1750 and 1772. Its origins are officially documented with the first deed records when Tennessee became a state in 1796, and it was described as “old” at that time. The dwelling is also known as the Parkins-Frazier House, bearing witness to those who acquired the property from Frazier, the Parkins or Perkins family. A Parkins/Perkins family cemetery is located a short distance from the house.
Homesteaded in Indian territory (Territory South of the River Ohio), the house has stood in three different states while never moving: North Carolina, the state of Franklin and Tennessee. The Landers family resides in the home full-time and operates a working farm, Old Stone House Farm.
