"I went from taking 17 pills a day to taking nothing."
James Lawson's bariatric surgery story was similar to the many other people that walked the catwalk on the evening of Dec. 10 during the Bariatric Surgery Fashion Show, hosted by the Blount Memorial Weight Management Center, Foothills Weight Loss Specialists and Johnson and Johnson Ethicon Endo-Surgery.
The event celebrated seven years and more than 75,000 pounds lost at Blount Memorial, and more than 300 people joined in on the celebration.
Weight-loss surgery patients took a walk down the catwalk, showed off their clothes pre-surgery and post-surgery, and then told others about how bariatric surgery changed their lives for the better. From disappearing health conditions to increased confidence, each participant spoke about their surgery success.
The models are patients of surgeons Dr. Mark Colquitt and Dr. Jonathan Ray, and the patients sung the praises of the surgeons and the Blount Memorial Weight Management Center throughout the evening. Peggy Haun told attendees, "I thank God every day that He brought Dr. Ray into my life." Angela Brimm added, "I want to thank Dr. Colquitt for saving my life ... and he truly did."
