The Maryville College women's basketball team opened the Amy Hasbrook Memorial Tournament in Greencastle, Ind., on Tuesday with a 74-64 loss to St. Mary's College.
The Scots (6-4) started sluggishly in their return from a 13-day break, trailing 20-5 early in the first half before trimming their deficit to 38-30 at halftime and pulling within four with 6:45 remaining. But the Belles (7-3), led by Kelly Murphy's game-high 22 points, pulled away down the stretch.
Alexis Rouvelas matched Murphy with 22 points for MC, which shot 56 percent from the free-throw line and was out-rebounded 42-34 by Notre Dame, Ind.-based St. Mary's. Janell Menard added 13 points, and Alicia Brown finished with 10 points, five assists and four rebounds.
Maryville will play in the tournament's consolation game at 2 p.m. today against the loser of Tuesday's game between Northland and host Depauw University.
