A preseason All-American nod by D3hoops.com meant raised expectations for Eryk Watson.
It's also meant a lot more attention from opposing defenses. As the calendar turns to 2010, the Maryville College wing hopes he's finally figured out how to play with the spotlight on.
"It hasn't been the season it's supposed to be," Watson said. "Thank goodness for teammates stepping up. We're still off to a great start. We can still make things happen. I got to pick it up on my end."
The Scots (9-2) will look to get more from Watson when they host NAIA member Bryan College (8-5) at 3 p.m. today inside Boydson Baird Gymnasium. Admission is free.
Watson, who reached 1,000 points on his college career Wednesday at Tennessee Wesleyan, has struggled early this season after leading the team with 19 points per game last year. Facing double and sometimes triple teams, the junior has had to learn how to find open teammates and adjust to not always being able to bull his way to the basket. Watson may finally be turning a corner, however, with his scoring average bumped up to 15.5 points per game.
