MC women host Salem in first GSAC meeting

The Maryville College women's basketball team is focusing on conference play as the new year begins.
Today the Scots host Salem College, a new Great South Athletic Conference member, for a 4 p.m. contest at Boydson Baird Gym on the MC campus.
"We've got 14 regular season games left, and 12 of those are conference," Scots coach Todd Wright said. "Outside of Covenant and Sewanee, the rest of the way it's conference games. You want to be playing your best basketball in January and February."
Maryville (7-4, 2-0 GSAC) lost its first post-holiday break contest in the DePauw University Classic Tournament at Greencastle, Ind., on Dec. 29, but recovered to notch a 74-70 victory over Northland College on Dec. 30.
Salem (3-3, 2-1) hasn't played since an 81-68 loss on Dec. 5, the first conference contest of the season for the Spirits.
