Winds cause problems in Townsend

High winds caused problems today for Sevier County Electric System including three current problems in Townsend.
At 2:30 p.m. there were 91 customers without electricity in Townsend due to three problems. Downed trees took out electric service in Dry Valley on Old Cades Cove Road, Stables Drive and East Lamar Alexander Parkway in Townsend, said a Sevier Electric spokesman.
Sevier County had 33 cases where electricity was off systemwide due to high winds. Sevier County has just over 54,000 customers systemwide.
Cove Mountain Air Quality Station in Great Smoky Mountains National Park off Wears Valley in Sevier County reported wind gusts of 80 miles per hour between 10 and 11 a.m. today. Average winds were 47 miles per hour.
