Despite chances of snow this week, most Blount County residents don't need to stock up on milk and bread because forecasters don't expect much accumulation in the area.

“You might see a trace on the ground,” meteorologist with the National Weather Service office in Morristown Mary Black said Monday evening.

The exception will be for residents in higher elevations, she said.

“We do have a winter weather advisory for the eastern mountains and Smokies,” Black said. “We do expect to see some accumulation up there.”

Blount County residents can expect cold temperatures today with rain turning to snow tonight.

“You might see some snow fall Tuesday night, but by Wednesday there will be no additional accumulation,” Black said.

Flurries may linger Wednesday as temperatures struggle to rise above freezing. The high is expected to be around 35 degrees Wednesday, Black said.

“Thursday we are looking to have a dry day,” Black said. “We have another system approaching the area on Friday and (residents) might see some fairly light hit-or-miss type of showers. You could see a little bit of a (rain and snow) mix, but most of it will stay to the south.”

Saturday and Sunday could bring snow, but Black said the weekend is too far away to predict accumulations.
