The new year has a lot to live up to if it’s going to surpass what prep athletes accomplished in 2013.

With the exception of the fall tournaments, local teams were in every state championship the TSSAA held this past year. In chronological order it went Heritage bowling, Maryville and Heritage wrestling, Maryville basketball, Maryville and Seymour softball, a slew of track athletes, Maryville tennis, Maryville soccer, Alcoa and Heritage golf, Maryville and Alcoa cross country and finally Alcoa then Maryville football. And even though the The Daily Times made those trips to Murfreesboro, Smyrna or Cookeville as well, it’s only when taken as a reflection upon the whole that the realization of just how blessed the area has been sets in.
