Newfound Gap Road (U.S. 441) in Great Smoky Mountains National Park is closed due to a landslide that wiped out at least 200 feet of roadway

The slide occurred at 9:40 a.m. Wednesday near mile marker 22 between Collins Creeks and Webb Overlook. The location is between Newfound Gap parking lot and Cherokee, N.C. The debris field for the slide is about 90,000 cubic feet — about the size of a football field — and 45 to 50 feet deep.
