Geraldine Clark Upton, the second of ten children, was born March 23, 1935, in Sweetwater, Tennessee to Anderson and Hazel Clark. She joined her husband, Charles F. Upton, in eternal rest on November 1, 2017. She accepted Christ at an early age at First Presbyterian Church and united with Robinson Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church in America after re-locating to Alcoa, TN. She received her early education in the Monroe County School System and graduated from High Point High School in 1953. In 1957 she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Knoxville College and her Master of Science in Education from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville in 1971. Her career in education spanned more than 4 decades, which included Charles M. Hall High School (1957-1968) and Alcoa High School (1968-2001). She was a classroom teacher, coach of the girl’s basketball team, cheerleader sponsor and counselor. An active member of Robinson Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church in America, Mrs. Upton served in several capacities: Sunday School teacher, choir member, church clerk, church treasurer and the Missionary Society. Mrs. Upton was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two brothers and two sisters. She leaves to cherish her unforgettable memory, sons: Todd (Kelli) Upton and Sheldon Maurice Upton; two grandsons, James and John and one granddaughter Juri “Cricket”; siblings, John (Marlene) Clark, Virginia Lee Upton, Alice Smith, Mary Nancy Travis, Jackie McCowan and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. — 11:00 a.m. Saturday November 11, 2017, at Alcoa High School competition gym with funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Chris Martin officiating. Mrs. Upton’s remains will be laid to rest Sunday November 12, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. at Dickey Cemetery, 2106 Chestnut Street, Sweetwater, TN.
