Newspaper In Education (NIE) is an international program designed to promote and increase our children’s literacy by using the newspaper as a teaching tool. NIE is a unique way for schools, businesses and the local newspaper to work together in a partnership that benefits all of us—now and in the future.
Through the use of the daily news, editorials, features and even advertising, students at all grade levels can learn educational concepts like math and cost comparison skills, geography and meteorology, history and current events and how they shape our world, all while improving reading and comprehension skills.
The Daily Times absorbs the costs of printing & distributing the newspapers for the program and relies on support from area businesses so educators may participate in the program at no cost to them.
The Daily Times has implemented Newspapers in Education to promote literacy and reading in our local schools. By becoming a partner in our Newspapers in Education program your donation will help students to develop their reading ability, build character, and so much more.
Together we can make a difference in the quality of the education our children receive. Your donation will allow students and teachers access to the only textbook that is updated daily "the newspaper."
Donate your vacation newspapers – when you temporarily stop home delivery of The Daily Times while you’re away, you can donate your papers to the NIE program.
