The Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation presented $1,725 to the Blount County Community Action Agency to help feed local residents. BCCAA will use the gift to help provide weekend meals.

The local agency fights poverty in Blount County in a variety of ways including feeding food insecure senior adults.

“We are grateful for Food Lion Charitable Foundation for their commitment to local support in our effort to combat senior adult food insecurity,” BCCAA Executive Director David Buchanan said.

While BCCAA’s Smoky Mountain Meals on Wheels is primarily a weekday program, there are senior adults in Blount County who do not have food or resources to provide for eating on weekends. This gift will help fill that gap in service.

Established in 2001, the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation has awarded more than $12 million in grants.
