William “Bill” Proffitt, a resident at Shannondale of Maryville, has been named by the Tennessee Health Care Association to its annual Who’s Who in Tennessee Long-term Care.
Since 1983, the Who’s Who in Tennessee Long-term Care program has recognized more than 2,300 outstanding individuals living in THCA member facilities who have made noteworthy contributions to society and helped shape history through their actions.
Proffitt was chair of the Alcoa Municipal/Regional Planning Commission for 34 years and also served on the Blount County Planning Commission and the Alcoa Board of Zoning Appeals.
Proffitt is a graduate of Maryville College. After graduation he worked with his brother on the family farm for many years before beginning his own real estate brokerage and appraisal firm, which he owned for 35 years. After retirement he won a gold medal in the Senior Olympics in bicycling, and is a longtime avid woodworker and displays many of his creations.
