The Salvation Army of Knoxville has named two new area commanders, Dan and Sarah Nelson. The Nelsons have served in the Salvation Army both as employees and officers. In their new roles, they will serve Knoxville, Maryville and Sevierville. Additionally, they will be assuming roles of corps officers of the Knoxville Citadel Corps.

The Nelsons currently serve as territorial youth secretaries for The Salvation Army, USA Southern Territory. Located in Atlanta, the Nelsons work is aimed at serving the needs of young people and resourcing the ministry of youth workers.

Maj. Sarah Nelson was ordained and commissioned a Salvation Army officer in 2004 and Capt. Dan Nelson in 2008. Both have earned degrees in religious fields of study. He holds a bachelor’s degree in communications from Western Illinois University and a Master of Arts in religion from Trevecca Nazarene University. She holds a bachelor’s in Christian ministries from Trevecca Nazarene and is currently working on a Master of Arts in religion as well. In 2010, she graduated from the Arrow Leadership Program.
