While double checking the holidays in May, I noticed there are several celebrated days that have incorporated into other holidays. Such as, National Hamburger Day is the same as Memorial Day. National Hoagie Day and Oyster Day is the same as Cinco de Mayo.

With all of these special days this month, the sales will concentrate on Cinco de Mayo, which is May 5, Mother’s Day on May 13 and Memorial Day, May 28. Remember to take advantage of the sales before the holidays and the discounted clearance prices directly afterward.

Some of the items to look for on sale in the month of May are soda, charcoal grilling meats like chicken and steaks and other grilling items like hot dogs, hamburger meat, buns and salad dressing. Outdoor products like paper products, plates, utensils, insect repellant and sunscreen will start the sale cycle.

When purchasing allergy medicines, remember to match up brands with coupons. Know your grocery stores sales cycle — either the rotational sales or seasonal sales. Rotational sales are cycles that stores use to rotate the stock on the shelves. Seasonal sales are holidays and special events like Mother’s Day or Memorial Day. Several items will be placed on sale to entice you to come to the store. Using coupons gives extra savings in your wallet.

The plan is to stock up when the prices are at rock bottom prices. This will carry you through the weeks that do not have special sales. Additionally, review all store ads to see which store offers the best price on the require items for that week. Remember, as you save money with couponing, make sure you take advantage of your savings with the 52-week money saving plan. Place $18 into your savings program. This would leave a new savings balance of $171 toward your year-end goal of $1,378.
