As the second nine weeks at Alcoa Middle School is coming to a close, all students and staff are in a very festive mood.

The Alcoa Middle School Chorus under the direction of Mr. Trent Gilmore will be very busy in the upcoming weeks. The Christmas concert at the Clayton Center for the Arts will be today. The program will have combined selections from the middle school chorus and the Alcoa High School Singers.

The concert begins at 7 p.m., and admission is $6. The eighth grade chorus is having its annual performance at Tyson-McGhee Airport on Thursday, Dec. 13. The sixth and seventh grade choruses will be performing on Friday, Dec. 14, at the Blount County Library.

The Alcoa Middle School Band’s annual Christmas concert is on Friday, Dec. 14, at the Clayton Center for the Arts. Admission is free, and the concert begins at 7 p.m. Band members Quintin Willette, Bianca McGee and Keller McMurray attended the Junior Band Clinic at Oak Ridge High School on Nov. 30. Christine Traigis is the band director.

On Nov. 13, Alcoa Middle School held its annual school spelling bee. The spelling bee was for all middle grades, but the top four students were all in eighth grade. Congratulations to Emma Lowery, Nick Garland, Samantha Jordan and Mikayla Jordan. Mikayla Jordan won the bee, with her sister Samantha as the runner up. Mikayla will go to the state bee in the spring at the University of Tennessee.

The 2018-2019 yearbooks are now available to purchase. Students can add personalization by adding names and icons on the cover. Yearbooks are $35 (names and icons are $5 extra), and they will be available until Jan. 11. Students may either send their money to the office or order their yearbooks online.

Parents had a chance to have breakfast with the principal on Dec. 7 at 8:30 a.m. All Pro Dads met that same morning at 7:15.
