To celebrate this year’s Summer Reading theme of “A Universe of Stories,” the Blount County Public Library will be screening "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" at 6 p.m. on Monday, July 15, in the Sharon Lawson Room.

Hailed as one of the greatest science fiction films of all time, "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" made contact with viewers in 1977 and set the precedent for future extraterrestrial flicks. After electrical lineman, Roy Neary, encounters a UFO one ordinary evening, he becomes transfixed on proving its existence no matter the cost. The film is rated PG with a run time of 135 minutes. The event is free and open to the public.

The library is located at 508 N. Cusick St., Maryville. For further information about library programs or services, call the library at 865-982-0981 or visit the Web site at
