Every year, the Tennessee Department of Health holds a statewide “FightFluTN” event in which local health departments administer free flu shots.

This year the event will take place in Blount County on Nov. 19 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Blount County Public Library.

According to a press release from the TDH, the flu shot events serve as a “statewide emergency preparedness and response exercise” to provide vaccinations, medication and other supplies needed in the case of a flu pandemic.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, getting a flu shot is the most important thing people can do to prevent getting the flu.

“Getting a flu shot helps protect those in our community who can’t get a vaccination, such as very young children and people with certain medical conditions,” the TDH release said.
