Highland Presbyterian Sunday service

During Highland Presbyterian’s Sunday service, the children of recent Congolese refugees Janvier Malipo and Mayele Vumiliya, who the congregation welcomed last month, will accompany the choir with African percussion instruments.

Members of Maryville’s Highland Presbyterian congregation will wear red for 10:30 a.m. worship Sunday, June 9. Signifying the fire and warmth of the Holy Spirit, this color of stoles, chancel cloths and processional banners will mark the Day of Pentecost, birthday of Christianity and its third most important festival.

In the service the congregation will celebrate the Rite of Confirmation for teenagers Bergen Erickson and Charlotte Tymon.

Directed by Sharon Brothers, the children of recent Congolese refugees Janvier Malipo and Mayele Vumiliya, whom the congregation welcomed last month, will accompany with African percussion instruments the choir in an anthem about the Holy Spirit.

Refreshments will follow worship.

Highland Church is located at 721 E. Lamar Alexander Parkway, across from Maryville College campus. For more information, call 865-982-9272 or visit www.highlandpresby.org.
