Nine local veterans whose combined service extended from 1963 to 2016 were honored Saturday evening at Rocky Branch Community Center in Walland.

A Quilts of Valor presentation was given by the Village Quilters, the Loudon Chapter of the Quilts of Valor Foundation.

The honorees who each received a Quilt of Valor were:

Benjamin T. Cooper, who served in the Army from 1969 to 1971

Lynn Hitch, Army, 1967-1969

Carl C. Hurst, Army, 1969-1970

Halle Timpson, Air Force, 1987-1994

Robert Bandy, Army, 1969-1970

David Brewer, Navy, 1975-1995

Carl Ronald Inman, Navy, 1985-2016

Douglas Heaadrick, Army, 1963-1973

Roger Lowe, who served in the Marines from 1966 to 1968, was unable to attend, along with Tom Fagg, a veteran of World War II. Fagg is a previous honoree.

The ceremony included the invocation led by Mike Mikels, and recognition of veterans in the audience by Ben Cooper. Cooper also led the pledge of allegiance. Blount County Mayor Ed Mitchell thanked the veterans for their selfless service. Department of Veterans Services Director Nathan Weinbaum also addressed the crowd.

The quilts were presented by Arliss Barber.

The Quilts of Valor Foundation has chapters nationwide that provide quilts to veterans who have served this country.
