The community is invited to attend Maryville College’s Bicentennial Worship Service at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 18, in the Clayton Center for the Arts’ Ronald and Lynda Nutt Theatre.

Prior to the service, representatives from area churches are invited to participate in the Faith Community Fair from 6-7 p.m., which will give new Maryville College students the opportunity to meet members of local churches and faith communities and learn about their worship services while enjoying food and friendship before classes begin.

The theme for both events is “Finding Your Place, Making Your Mark.”

“Worship and service is often an important part of the college experience for MC students, and for many, the relationship begins with the Faith Community Fair and Worship Service,” said Kathleen Farnham, director of church relations at Maryville College. “As Maryville College celebrates its Bicentennial this year, we also want to celebrate our area’s faith communities and our 200-year history of shared mission and service. The theme, ‘Finding Your Place, Making Your Mark,’ not only recognizes our past but points us to an inclusive and purposeful future as a faith community.”

The Rev. Dr. Anne D. McKee, assisted by Alan Eleazer, Larry Ervin and MC students, will lead the worship service. Participating churches will be recognized during the service to better assist students in connecting with local congregations.

New this year is a choir comprised of members of local churches. Each church is invited to send members of the choir to process and sing as a massed choir. If your church would like to participate in the choir, please contact Alan Eleazer at alan.eleazer@maryvillecollege.edu.

As in past years, churches are invited set up display tables with information at the Faith Community Fair, which begins at 6 p.m. Treats and goodie bags for incoming students are always welcome! Set-up is at 5 p.m. in the William Baxter Lee III Grand

Foyer of the Clayton Center for the Arts. Representatives may be lay leaders, clergy, program directors, current college students or members with particular interest in ministry with college students.

Reservations for the Faith Community Fair are required by Aug. 9. For more information or to register, contact Kathleen Farnham at 865-981-8217 or kathleen.farnham@maryvillecollege.edu.
