Keep Blount Beautiful (KBB) offers a wide range of educational programs including field trips and environmental education programs for the classroom. KBB contracts with the Alcoa/Maryville/Blount County Landfill and the Alcoa, Maryville and Blount County stormwater departments to educate Blount County students about the importance of reducing, reusing, recycling; litter prevention; and water quality.
KBB offers tours of the Alcoa/Maryville/Blount County Landfill to students, community groups, and anyone interested in learning more. Locations visited at the Landfill include the scale house, recycling center, air curtain destructor/incinerator, demolition cell, remote control airplane strip, methane to gas facility and the class A household trash cell.
KBB also offers trips to the EcoCenter, an innovative learning facility located on a three-acre wetland area on the DENSO campus. The Eco Center was built in order to provide an interactive learning experience for local students and serve as a plant and wildlife refuge.
The landfill tour and Eco Center trips may be scheduled individually or paired together. Both field trips are an excellent way to learn about waste disposal in Blount County and ways to reduce waste.
In addition, KBB also offers education lessons and activities for the classroom. These lessons are a great way to introduce sustainable topics to students and other community groups in Blount County. These topics include water quality, stormwater runoff, litter prevention, energy conservation and recycling.
Additionally, KBB will provide materials for a recycled craft so students can learn the importance of reducing, reusing, and recycling through a craft activity.
