As the end of the year is just weeks away, Union Grove Middle School students continue to show excellence and respect. The Pennies for Patients fundraiser held throughout February and March was a great success. In total $1,329.82 was raised for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Mrs. Sneed’s homeroom raised the most money to earn first place, winning an Olive Garden Pasta Party. Mrs. Antras’s homeroom earned second place and are being rewarded with a pizza party. Both parties are courtesy of Beth Pyle and CBBC Bank.
The Beta Club took its annual reward trip to Dollywood on May 6 as a reward for Betas who have participated in club service projects, have completed 12 or more hours of community service and have maintained a high level of academic excellence this year.
Beta Club is also collecting items for its annual Teacher Appreciation Project, which will commence in May.
The UGMS eighth grade band performed at the Tennessee Secondary Schools Band Directors Association Concert Assessment on Apr. 27 at Union County High School. They played two musical selections for a panel of judges, received valuable feedback and were awarded superior ratings from all the judges. Talon Black, Kaylee Parker, Tanner Reyes, Hannah Rundle, Sierra Thatcher and Emily Whitehead represented UGMS at the East Tennessee School Band and Orchestra Association’s Solo and Ensemble Festival.
They received amazing scores for their small-group performances.
The eighth grade awards ceremony is being held at 9 a.m. on May 15, in the UGMS gymnasium.
It is a celebration of UGMS’s eighth graders’ hard work and effort throughout all of middle school and is an annual send off that UGMS enjoys providing for their outgoing eighth graders.
