Blount County firefighters were able to save a burning home, but not the vehicle that started the fire Saturday evening on Best Road.

BCFD firefighters reported that the residents of 3320 Best Road had just gotten home around 11:30 p.m. Saturday when their Jeep Liberty caught on fire, with the result that the flames quickly spread to the corner of their house.

BCFD got the call at 11:36 p.m. and arrived at 11:49 p.m. Five units and 11 men responded, and they had the blaze under control by 11:55 p.m.

It's not clear why the Jeep caught fire in the first place. But firefighters were able to save the home, which suffered mostly "cosmetic damage," in the form of some extra-crispy vinyl siding. The Jeep, however, was a total loss.

The homeowners' name was not available Sunday afternoon. There were no injuries in the fire.
