Blount County Fire Rescue had its hands full when it extinguished a basement fire Thursday evening at 1027 Vanderbilt Circle.

Temperatures in Maryville had soared over 90 degrees earlier in the day.

"We had the heat to contend with," Capt. Jason Stinnett said.

Crews received reports of a fire at 6:42 p.m. and were on scene by 6:46 p.m.

"We had it under control by 7:20 p.m.," Stinnett said.

The basement was a total loss but the upstairs suffered smoke damage, he added.

The incident remains under investigation.
