For the second year in a row, Maryville High School had a valedictorian and two salutatorians in its senior class.
The top students announced during Friday’s graduation were valedictorian Katherine Ann Reed and salutatorians Emma Miller Alexander and Riann Abigail McMillan.
Reed was president of Key Club, secretary of the National Honor Society and an Earth Team volunteer with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Resources Conservation Service.
She plans to attend the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and major in either biochemistry or cellular and molecular biology.
Salutatorian Alexander was a National Merit Finalist, varsity soccer player and president of the Spanish Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta, the mathematics honor society.
She plans to attend Vanderbilt University and major in biology or biochemistry.
Salutatorian McMillan is a principal dancer with the Appalachian Ballet Company. She is a member of the National Honor Society and Latin Honor Society, as well as co-consul of the Junior Classical League.
She plans to attend the University of Alabama and major in chemistry.
All three are Maryville Scholars, not only among the top 25 seniors academically who took advanced courses but also having no grade below a C and no out-of-school suspensions.
