A 21-year-old Maryville man was charged with domestic violence with aggravated assault for reportedly threatening to shoot his girlfriend Thursday during an argument.

Deputies responded to a Guadal Canal Drive apartment after a 24-year-old woman told dispatchers she and her toddler were hiding in a bathroom and that the child’s father, Jacob Allen Suthard, may have had a gun.

The woman told deputies Suthard became aggressive after when she asked him if he was cheating on her, according to reports.

Suthard reportedly tried to pry the child away from her with his elbow in her side, then pointed a handgun at her face and verbally threatened her before she locked herself and the child in the bathroom.

The victim wasn’t injured but told deputies Suthard is often violent with her, according to reports.

Suthard was arrested later by a Knoxville Police officer.

He faces a second charge of child abuse or neglect with aggravated assault.

He remained in the Blount County Detention Center Friday on $150,000 bond pending a hearing at 9 a.m. June 13 in Blount County General Sessions Court.
