A Maryville man has been charged with the rape of a child under 13 years old, the Blount County Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies arrested Charles Duane Rodgers, 58, Ripley Drive, on Sept. 20.

BCSO Public Information Officer Marian O'Briant emailed The Daily Times that Rodgers had been picked up by Knox County deputies on a warrant out of Blount County.

O'Briant said BCSO began investigating in mid-August and ultimately authorities took out a warrant after allegedly finding evidence he had sexually abused a juvenile female relative for five years.

The girl was between the ages of 8 to 13 at the time, O'Briant said.

O'Briant wrote she was not able to give The Daily Times a report of the arrest because she would have had to "redact 95% of the narrative" because it was replete with information about the juvenile.

However, the investigation is ongoing.

Rodgers was released on a $500,000 bond Sept. 21.

His hearing is set for today at 9 a.m. in Blount County General Sessions Court.

How do you know this to be true?

wellsboo2000

Because I know... it happened to my neice. I know other things as well but I don't feel it's best to put it out there. I'll just wait till the media tells it and if it's wrong I'll try to help fix it.
