A Maryville man faces methamphetamine and heroin charges after he was charged with drug possession following a traffic stop Monday.
Blount County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Marian O’Briant said 46-year-old James Allen Brown, Hamilton Ridge Drive, was stopped Monday by a deputy on East Broadway Avenue.
Brown was taken into custody after Fifth Judicial Drug Task Force investigators found drugs in his vehicle, according to reports.
“During the investigation, investigators found 5 grams of heroin in four separate baggies, as well as 3.3 grams of crystal meth,” O’Briant said. “They also found digital scales.”
Brown was booked into the Blount County Detention Facility at 9:52 p.m. and was charged with possession of a Schedule I controlled substance for resale and manufacture of a Schedule II controlled substance.
O’Briant said Brown also was being held on a Knox County warrant for aggravated assault by strangulation.
Bonds were set at $100,000. A hearing will be at 9 a.m. July 17 in Blount County General Sessions Court.
