A Blount County man was treated for injuries Thursday evening after an officer-involved shooting in Maryville.

Blount County Sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of a domestic call around 6:30 p.m. on Montvale Road.

“When deputies arrived and attempted to make contact with the suspect, a man opened the door and began to raise a rifle at a deputy,” according to a BCSO press release. “The deputy fired his service weapon, striking the man on his hand.”

The man, whose name was not released by press time, was taken by American Medical Response ambulance services to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville.

His wife wasn’t injured, according to BCSO spokeswoman Marian O’Briant.

The deputy, whose name also hasn’t been released, is on administrative leave with pay in compliance with departmental policy while the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation completes its investigation.
