A Rockford woman was charged Wednesday with introducing contraband into a penal facility Wednesday night after an investigation in Alcoa.

An Alcoa Police officer who was dispatched to find a reported reckless driver at 11:10 p.m. around Hunt Road and Alcoa Highway found the blue Ford truck in the Walmart parking lot, 1030 Hunters Crossing.

Police said the driver, 35-year-old Sarah Michelle Claude, had a suspended license and an active warrant for failure to appear on another charge of driving on a suspended license.

Two juveniles in the truck were released to a parent.

Claude reportedly told officers twice she didn’t have anything illegal in her possession twice before an officer found crystal methamphetamine in her pants waistband.

A folded $20 bill in her waistband also contained the drug, police said, for a total of 1 gram.

Claude, who told the staff she had forgotten that it was there, was charged with simple possession or casual exchange of drugs, introduction of drugs into a penal facility and failure to appear.

She was being held on $11,000 in combined bonds pending 9 a.m. hearings June 19 and 20 in Blount County General Sessions Court.
